He left her behind, but the city calls her back. He broke her heart... but her spirit...still wants to fight back.

A city looking to kill itself. A population without its dark avenger, without answers, without hope. A cop looking to save Gotham from its own madness. A reporter looking to reclaim her career by revealing that it's no coincidence the city's top billionaire and its urban legend are missing at the same time. A doctor seeking to regain her soul by stepping back into Hell. One hero who can't quite get it right no matter how hard she tries. Harvey Bullock. Vicki Vale. Dr. Leslie Thompkins. Stephanie Brown. What do all these people have in common?

Without Batman, Gotham City continues to fall apart, and these extraordinary "ordinary" people try to mend the city's wounds, looking into a dark night for answers. This one-shot special explores the effect a missing Batman has on the citizens of Gotham City.

Summary of Stephness: Gotham is in chaos now that Batman is dead. Stephanie is walking around in her street clothes, about to pick up her mom from work, when she sees the criminal Nocturna attempting a burglary. Nocturna is about to take off in her parachute, but Steph surreptitiously stops her by tying the parachute back to it's anchor. Tim comes by and notes someone has made his job easy. Stephanie sees him and hides as he motors by. Steph then reaches her Mom to take her home from the hospital as her "bodyguard". The narration indicates that the city is a part of Stephanie and she can never stop fighting crime, even if Tim has warned her off. When she goes up to her room, she looks at and touches her Spoiler costume, and the narration says her spirit is fighting back as she looks at her face reflected in the lens of her Spoiler mask.
